Hi! Welcome to - The Kites of Skye Wynd! I used to live on a street named Skye Wynd and I fly kites. I fly dual-line stunt kites as well as quad-line kites. I will blog here about the kites I fly, the dates and places I've flown, the tricks I'm working on, and other kite related, blah, blah, blah...
Date: 12/31/09, Thurs. Place: Cosmo, Columbia, MO Kites: E2 on 85' Wind: 5 - 8 mph, NW Weather: Sunny, 28º
This was my last day of work as a full-time employee at eMINTS. I'll be working half-time for a couple of months - hopefully. They let us off early and it was sunny, so I went for a kite fly. The grass was wet with a some light patches of snow, but there was a gentle "floaty" wind that was very nice for flying the E2.
I had a nice set of flic-flacs, some floaty back-flips/lazy-susans, some 540s on the left and half-axels. Twice I got a yo-yo wrap, kind of hard to do with the E2, which has no yo-yo stoppers.
2009 Statistics
Number of days I flew a kite: 226 (out of 365 days) = 62% of all days!
Today I got my layoff notice from my job at eMINTS (this was due to state budget cuts), not totally unexpected, but not very welcome either. So I did a 2o-minute fly at the ARC on my way home from work. When I arrived the grass looked very black. Then, very impressively, the black flew away! It was hundreds of blackbirds feeding in the grass.
I did some 360s, up-and overs, and some spirals. I didn't need my winter coat, nor gloves.
Date: 12/13/09 Sun. Place: Cosmo, Columbia, MO Kites: Echo on 12', 3d on 20' Wind: 1 - 3 mph, S Weather: Mostly sunny, 42º
I started out with the Echo and was only able to fly a couple 360s due to the wind picking up. I was still able to do some up-and-overs, some spirals, and some fades.
When the wind came up I switched to the 3d. I did get two 360s during a lull in the wind, but mostly flew loops and axels, some nice and low and slow.
There was a guy with a radio-controlled car, and the buzzing became very annoying.
Date: 12/5/09 Place: Cosmo, Columbia, MO Kites: E2 on 85' Wind: 6 - 11 mph, S Weather: Sunny, 36º
It's sunny and the grass is still green, but the temperature is now back to a more expected value for December. I flew the E2 and had it do some tricks for a Missourian reporter, Katheryn. I'm not sure if this actually generated an article.
I was able to do most of the usual tricks: Flic-Flacs, Back-spin (left handed), 540 (also on the left), Back-flips with Lazy Susans, and some nice axels into fades. Another nice day for kite flying.
